I’m excited to have a chapter in a great new book from Oxford University Press, The Business Turn in American Religious History. The book is edited by Amanda Porterfield, Darren Grem, and John Corrigan.
It features an excellent set of scholars each coming at the question of how business and religion coalesce in American history. For my part, my chapter examines the ways Asian gurus and godmen function as entrepreneurs and CEOs. Specifically, I discuss Swami Vivekananda and Sathya Sai Baba. The entire book is worth your time.
